In a commendable recognition of public service commitment, Chatham County Assistant County Manager Carolyn Miller was recently honored with the Heroic Hands award by the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners (NCACC) at their annual conference on August 21, as detailed in an official announcement from the Chatham County's website. Miller, known for her dedication to the county’s administration, has been a Chatham County government fixture for more than 28 years, climbing the ranks since her start in November 1996.

The Heroic Hands award, part of an initiative begun last year by NCACC president Tare “T” Davis, shines a light on the often-unnoticed pillars of community service, with this year's spotlight firmly on Miller's long-standing role, while Miller started as the front desk administrative support specialist in the County Manager's Office and quickly became an essential part of the team, gaining breadth of experience and moving on to the positions of Purchasing Agent and Director of Human Resources, before her promotion to Assistant County Manager and HR Director in March of 2021, and her rise to full-time Assistant Manager in July of 2023.

Chatham County Manager Bryan Thompson expressed his high regard for Miller, celebrating her sense of compassion and leadership ability, "I could not be more proud of my colleague and friend, Carolyn Miller, whose dedication to public service is second to none," Chatham County's website quoted him. He also emphasized her positive influence on the workforce, saying, "Her employees appreciate her openness to new ideas and how she encourages creative problem solving and innovative solutions; our staff feel a great sense of loyalty to the organization because of her leadership."
