A repeat offender from Clinton Township has made his way into the headlines again after being arrested on allegations of retail fraud for the 30th time. Sixty-six-year-old Dwayne Effren Taylor is accused of attempting to steal over $900 worth of goods from a Target store on Gratiot Avenue in Clinton Township last Monday, as per FOX 2 Detroit. Taylor, who has an extensive history of similar offenses, found himself in police custody once the store's loss prevention team intervened.
Upon his arrest, authorities discovered Taylor's lengthy rap sheet, which includes 29 prior arrests for retail fraud. Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido commented on the case, "This defendant has been arrested for retail fraud an astonishing 30 times and is currently out on parole for the very same offense," in a statement obtained by CBS Detroit. Lucido emphasized the intention of the prosecutor's office to seek "significant consequences" this time around, underscoring retail theft as a harmful crime affecting businesses and communities alike.
The details of Taylor's arraignment were outlined by authorities. His bond was set at $29,000 cash/surety. Moreover, he was ordered to undergo a substance abuse evaluation and wear a GPS tether should he manage to post bond. These developments came after prosecutors initially requested a $50,000 cash bond, and a similar tether as part of the conditions for release, according to Audacy. Taylor's subsequent court appearance is currently scheduled for August 18 at the 41B District Court for a probable cause conference.
