Houston, get ready for a wild ride at the Rodeo. Country music aficionado Cody Johnson is slated to headline the final concert of the 2026 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. This Texas native isn't new to the rodeo circuit, having made previous appearances that drew massive crowds, such as the over 73,000 attendees in 2023. The official on-sale for these hot tickets begins tomorrow, and given Johnson’s track record, they're expected to go like hotcakes.
What's special this time around is Johnson gets to close out RodeoHouston with a concert-only performance on Sunday, March 22, a feat previously only achieved by George Strait in 2022. The singer, who once earned his keep as a prison guard, made his impactful transition to music with the support of a warden, and the leap seems to have landed him well and truly on his feet. Following his dreams may just have landed Cody Johnson the prestigious opportunity of performing on the special night at RodeoHouston, which he describes as exceeding "any of my wildest dreams," according to a KHOU interview.
Those looking to snag tickets should act swiftly. The RODEOHOUSTON® Mobile App, powered by AXS, is your gateway to accessing tickets, with individual tickets for Johnson’s concert going on sale at 10 a.m. An Online Waiting Room opens up at 9:30 a.m., where customers will be randomly selected to enter the store to purchase tickets. This system, albeit fair, doesn't guarantee a ticket just because you're in the waiting room, so better set those alarms. Ticket prices range from $49 for Upper Level seats to a premium $349 for Floor tickets, subject to a convenience fee, as stated by CW39's report.
Johnson's footprint in the country music scene, emboldened by his five albums and an armful of awards - including Song of the Year for “Dirt Cheap” at the 2025 Academy of Country Music Awards - is poised to only deepen. Grown up in Sebastopol, a speck on the map north of Huntsville, Johnson's roots in rodeo go back to his teen years as a bullrider. Today, he's swapped the rodeo arena for the stage and will be bringing his celebrated songs like “Dirt Cheap” to rodeo fans, with an even faster chart-moving polarization than his previous works. His new music and an award-winning documentary, “Dear Rodeo: The Cody Johnson Story,” only underline his remarkable journey from small-town life to country music stardom, with each rodeo performance sealing his status as a hometown hero made good, as told in a 2017 interview with Westworld that Johnson shared his experience of following in his father's footsteps as a prison guard before music became his true call.
