Columbus City Schools (CCS) is doubling down on security with the introduction of new measures aimed at keeping those attending sporting and special events safe. In anticipation of the fall sports season, CCS is set to implement safety protocols beginning with the first football Friday night games on August 22.

Among these new measures is the deployment of the EVOLV High-Speed Weapons Detection Systems at most locations. By funneling spectators and visitors through a single entry point, CCS is tightening its security net. In a move that could be seen as a response to growing concerns about public safety, attendees will have to navigate these new protocols. According to the CCS announcement, students need to present their school ID and middle school students won't be allowed entry without being accompanied by an adult guardian or parent. Additionally, restrictions regarding bag size remain stringent, with the maximum dimensions being no larger than 5x8.

New restrictions will also be in place concerning ticket sales and admittance timing. No longer will tickets be sold or admission granted after the third quarter has ended. And once out, spectators are not allowed to re-enter the facility. Such measures are telling of the times, with CCS prioritizing a controlled environment over convenience.

"As always, we appreciate your support in our efforts and that you have an enjoyable experience while attending any CCS events," the district's statement expressed gratitude towards the community's cooperation amidst the new safety protocols. They went on to acknowledge, "We understand these changes may be inconvenient, but we ask for your understanding and cooperation." Offering a stern yet necessary reminder, according to Columbus City Schools (CCS), CCS emphasizes the ethos that effective security might be disruptive but is essential for ensuring the collective's protection.
