Ground has officially been broken on the Sonterra Boulevard Project in Jarrell, with Williamson County and the Texas Department of Transportation at the helm. Announced on a Monday, officials, including Commissioner Pct. 4 Russ Boles, gathered to mark the commencement of the project aimed at revamping the problematic intersection along the northbound Interstate 35 frontage road and Sonterra Boulevard. The construction includes the addition of a dedicated right-turn lane onto Sonterra Boulevard, specifically intended to improve safety and streamline the flow of traffic.
"It’s an exciting day in Precinct 4 as we begin the Sonterra Boulevard project. Many residents reached out asking for the issues at this intersection to be addressed, so I specifically requested this project to be included in the 2023 voter approved bond program," Boles stated. Highlighting the county's commitment to roadway safety, this development is indeed funded through the 2023 WilCo road bond, overwhelmingly endorsed by voters. Improved drainage is also on the agenda to ensure better access for residents and key services.
TxDOT Georgetown Area Engineer Kyle Russell also weighed in on the project's significance, mentioning their support for Williamson County in their strides to enhance community safety and traffic conditions. Huitt-Zollars has been tapped as the project engineer, with Mills Construction handling the contracting duties. As per the official release, the Sonterra Boulevard project carries a price tag of $566,829.31.
Projected to be wrapped up by December 2025, the community can expect to see a transformed and more efficient intersection in the near future. The collective efforts signal a step toward resolving long-standing concerns that community members have voiced.
