Seattle police arrested a 50-year-old convicted rapist on Tuesday afternoon after he was mistakenly released from the Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent. According to Seattle Police Department Blotter, patrol officers detained him in North Seattle after receiving a be on the lookout alert. The suspect initially gave a false name but was identified at the scene.
The man had been convicted by a jury in July for a 2019 rape inside an abandoned South Seattle house. Despite the conviction, he was mistakenly allowed to bond out of jail last month. The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office had filed criminal charges in connection with the case, which was confirmed through a DNA match.
Following his arrest, the suspect was booked into the King County Jail on a felony bench warrant for Rape in the Second Degree, issued by the King County Superior Court last last month. He faces more than 13 years in prison. The Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Unit led the investigation with support from police victim advocates.
