Authorities in Millcreek Township, Pennsylvania, are searching for a Dearborn, Michigan man accused of kidnapping his daughter from her home. Jafar Almaarej, 39, faces charges of kidnapping, interference with the custody of children, and terroristic threats. According to Audacy's WWJ Newsradio, Almaarej allegedly took the 7-year-old girl last Sunday afternoon while her mother was at work. Millcreek Police Department's Lieutenant Adam Hardner explained that Almaarej does not have custody and there is an active protection order against him.
The child's mother reportedly has sole custody, and Almaarej is accused of sending a threatening text to her before he disappeared. The text warned, as reported by The Detroit News, that if she contacted police, they would have to "search for their bones." Almaarej was last seen driving a black Jeep Wrangler with the Michigan license plate 050G994, although officials believe that he may have switched out that license plate since.
FOX 2 Detroit also covered the situation, noting that the Millcreek police are encouraging anyone who spots Almaarej or his vehicle to call 911 immediately. As Almaarej is believed to have ties in the Metro Detroit area, local police there are expectedly on alert as the investigation continues to unfold.
In terms of the progress on the case, there are no clear indications on where Almaarej may have taken his daughter. The authorities, however, have reason to believe that Almaarej has returned to Michigan, as per a report by Audacy's WWJ Newsradio, citing the Millcreek police. The collaboration between Millcreek police and local law enforcement in Michigan is ongoing as they work to locate Almaarej and ensure the safety of the child.
