The Las Vegas community is reeling from a June event that left two content creators dead, and now, the YouTuber accused of their murder may face the death penalty if convicted. On June 8, alongside the Bellagio Fountains, a fatal shooting claimed the lives of Rodney Finley and his wife, Tanisha, known online as "Finny Da Legend." The man behind the trigger, Manuel Ruiz, also a YouTuber operating under the moniker "Sin City Manny," has been charged with two felony counts of murder with a deadly weapon, and, according to court documents obtained by KTNV, prosecutors are seeking capital punishment based on the nature of the crime.
The shooting, which reportedly stemmed from an online dispute between the content creators, occurred during a live broadcast, adding a layer of public spectacle to the tragedy and Ruiz turned himself into Henderson police, asserting his actions were in self-defense, which complicates the case; his arrest report was revealed by FOX5.
Las Vegas police have identified two "aggravating circumstances" as the foundation for the potential capital punishment: the commission of multiple murders and the posed "great risk of death" to others during the act, as highlighted in the court papers. The pursuit of the death penalty is contingent on the prosecution proving these factors under Nevada law. Incidentally, Manuel Ruiz remains in jail without the possibility of bail and is expected to face an arraignment on Monday, as reported by both FOX5 and KTNV.
