Following a targeted operation by the Detroit Police Narcotics Unit, an Aug. 20 drug raid in Detroit's Mapleridge Street neighborhood yielded four arrests, as well as a cache of drugs and firearms, some of which were found to be untraceable "ghost guns." FOX 2 Detroit reported that the warrant execution took place within proximity to an elementary-middle school.
Police officers managed to quickly seize a variety of narcotics, including 51.6 grams of cocaine, 12.3 grams of fentanyl, 1.2 grams of heroin, 5 grams of methamphetamine, and 14 unspecified pills. The apprehension also included eight firearms and $811 in cash. This operation was to significantly disrupt the local drug trade, the total street value of the recovered narcotics amounting to an estimated $5,818, as detailed by officials cited in reporting by ClickOnDetroit.
Among the firearms recovered, Detroit police found one with a "Glock Switch" attached—a conversion device that can make a semi-automatic weapon fire like a machine gun. The presence of such modifications is concerning, given the vicinity of the bust to educational institutions like Brewer Academy, which lies just off Mapleridge Street.
