The Detroit Lions announced that former defensive end Robert Porcher will be inducted into the Pride of the Lions. The ceremony will take place at halftime of the team’s home opener on September 14, against the Chicago Bears at Ford Field, according to Detroit Lions.

"We are thrilled to cement Robert Porcher's legacy as one of the all-time Lions greats," Detroit Lions President & CEO Rod Wood said in a statement, as reported by CBS News. Porcher, who played his entire 13-year career with Detroit from 1992 to 2004, is the franchise’s all-time sack leader with 95.5, holds the single-season record with 15 sacks, and recorded five double-digit sack seasons. A three-time Pro Bowler, he was surprised with news of his induction into the Pride of the Lions by former teammates Jason Hanson, Herman Moore, and Chris Spielman during a recent training camp visit.

Robert Porcher will be inducted into the Pride of the Lions during the Detroit Lions’ home opener on September 14, at Ford Field. The Pride of the Lions, created in 2009, honors the team’s most notable players and already includes Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson. Team president Rod Wood said, “He was a model of stability and tenacity as a player and will always be someone our fans and even current players can look up to,” in a statement to Detroit Lions. Porcher was a first-round draft pick, set several team records, and was inducted into the Black College Football Hall of Fame in 2017.
