A Detroit man's encounter with the law came to a crashing conclusion when he was arrested this morning after leading police on a chase in a stolen U-Haul, ultimately crashing into a pole. According to The Detroit News, the unnamed 34-year-old suspect now faces charges following a pursuit that began in Highland Park.
In a report released by the Michigan State Police Second District on social media, the Detroit Regional Communication Center was alerted around 12:10 a.m. by Highland Park Police that the box truck was being pursued. The suspect is said to have attempted to use the vehicle as a ram against officers and their patrol cars. Metro South troopers were summoned to the area to provide assistance as the situation escalated. No injuries were reported by authorities throughout the ordeal.

The chase came to an end when the suspect crashed on Massachusetts Street near John R. Upon the arrival of state troopers at the scene, a search was initiated for the suspects who had been in the truck. A subsequent foot chase led to the apprehension of the man responsible for stealing the truck, as stated in a post by the MSP Second District.
"Troopers located a suspect who ran from them. The troopers chased the suspect into the backyard of 108 Massachusetts St.," and "The suspect was then taken into custody and turned over to the Highland Park Police Department," as mentioned by the MSP Second District in their social media update. The man was subsequently found hiding in overgrown vegetation behind a home before his arrest and detention. The Highland Park Police Department is continuing with the investigation.
This latest incident adds to a string of recent pursuits in Michigan. Just last month, a juvenile led police on a car chase from Port Huron to Chesterfield Township, accidently involving a sleeping baby in the car's backseat, while a break-in at a Hazel Park cannabis business resulted in a high-speed chase late last week. All of these cases, including the one involving a Marion man charged after a two-county chase.
