The City of Dublin has rolled out a new roundabout at the intersection of Avery Road, Rings Road, and Cara Road, aiming to boost travel safety and city utility services for local residents. The latest infrastructure enhancement is part of a broad improvement project, which, according to the city's announcement on the City of Dublin website, includes upgrading stormwater facilities, installing new water mains and hydrants, and crafting a pedestrian-friendly environment with sidewalks, shared use paths, and a pedestrian bridge.
Drivers have faced a series of road closures during the different phases of construction. Rings Road saw a significant shutdown between Avery Road and Norn Street earlier in the year, which was completed by February 19. More recently, beginning April 28, Rings Road, west of Avery Road, was closed for 145 days, affecting traffic to Pensworthy Drive. Detours rerouted drivers via Shier Rings and Cosgray Roads to navigate around the construction zone. Despite inconveniences, access to local homes and Ted Kaltenbach Park remained available throughout the operations.
As noted on the City of Dublin website, the project is nearing its end, with the newly constructed roundabout at the Avery Road/Rings Road intersection finally reopened. The latest update mentioned that while the intersection has been made available to traffic since yesterday, weather permitting, some final touches may still lead to "intermittent lane closures via flagger operations."
With the Avery Road and Rings Road closures winding down, Dublin looks forward to smoother rides and enhanced public facilities. Remaining work includes the completion of site amenities like street lighting and landscaping to complement the roundabout. Motorists and pedestrians alike can expect an improved travel experience upon full completion of the project, with all the artifacts of construction disappearing into memory as Dublin paves the way for a more efficient future.
