An early morning fire destroyed a 6,000-square-foot home in Clarkston, Michigan. According to CBS News Detroit, neighbors reported hearing a loud sound around 4:40 a.m. today before flames quickly spread, consuming about 75% of the structure. Firefighters arrived to find the roof collapsing as the blaze intensified.
Audacy reported that Independence Township Fire Chief Dave Piche said the two-story home’s top floor collapsed into the basement, leaving little of the residence intact. Firefighting efforts were complicated by a lack of fire hydrants in the area, requiring assistance from eight neighboring departments.
The Detroit News confirmed that the home was vacant at the time, and no injuries were reported among residents or first responders. Investigators are examining the cause of the fire, with a possible explosion under review by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office fire inspector.
