Drivers planning to navigate through Arlington and Fort Worth should prepare for significant disruptions as the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) announces the closure of all westbound lanes on Interstate 30 for bridge repairs. The shutdown, which will affect the stretch between Fielder Road in Arlington and Eastchase Parkway in Fort Worth, will be in effect from 9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 5, to 6 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8, according to the City of Arlington.
The decision to fully close this section of I-30 was made necessary by the emergency repairs needed on the Randol Mill Road bridge beams, which sustained damage from a tractor-trailer incident in June. Traffic will have to initially detour north on State Highway 360, then west on State Highway 183, and finally south on Interstate 820 to rejoin I-30 west of the construction zone. Motorists can expect to potentially face delays and are advised to plan their routes accordingly.
The repairs are critical for the restoration of a vital community connection and to ensure the safety of motorists. According to the Office of Communication's notice, the timing of the repairs was chosen to reduce to a minimum the impact on weekday traffic. Still, drivers should prepare for the reality that any closure of this nature is likely to disrupt normal travel plans and potentially increase travel times. Traffic rerouting signs will be in place to guide drivers through the detour path.
