Former Brazoswood High School teacher Brandyn Hargrove has pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a student in 2007. Hargrove was sentenced to 10 years of probation with deferred adjudication for sexual assault and indecency by contact charges and will also serve a concurrent probation term for indecency with a child by exposure. She is required to register as a sex offender for life, according to Click2Houston.
The case was brought forward by a former student who was between 15 and 17 years old at the time of the abuse. Clute Police Chief James Fitch told abc13 that the victim initially hesitated to come forward but was encouraged by law enforcement. He added that detectives had to track down people connected to the victim and Hargrove from 17 years ago to gather evidence.
Hargrove faced 12 felony counts, including six counts of sexual assault of a child, four counts of indecency with a child by contact, and two counts of indecency with a child by exposure. Despite possible prison sentences of up to 20 years, she received probation under the plea agreement. Chief Fitch told abc13 that investigators expected the case to go to trial but confirmed the victim was involved in the plea process. The Brazoria County District Attorney’s Office declined to comment on the case.
