The second annual Fort Bend County Pride Festival is gearing up to make a return this Sunday, with a vibrant tribute to love, diversity, and the superhero spirit. Following the inaugural event's success, which drew nearly a thousand attendees, the LGBTQ+ community of Fort Bend County is invited once again to immerse in a day of celebration from noon until 6 p.m. at the county fairgrounds located in Rosenberg, as reported by Click2Houston.
Embracing the "Superheroes of Pride" theme, participants are encouraged to step into the boots of their beloved comic book characters or LGBTQ+ icons. "We want everybody to come dressed up as their favorite superhero or LGBT icon," LaToya "Hunny" Phillips, the festival's founder, told the Houston Public Media. The event aims to be an inclusive safe haven, complete with a kids zone, a sensory-friendly area, and provisions for senior attendees.
Chris Pino, Fort Bend County Pride's director of community engagement, voiced an earnest conviction about the festival's purpose. He described to the Houston Public Media his own experiences of alienation as a young gay person in the area. "The reason why I do this – and I think the reason why we do this – is in service to all of the gay kids growing up in Fort Bend County right now," he said. The festival's dedication to providing a nearby venue for LGBTQ residents reflects an ongoing commitment to foster and acknowledge a sense of community that was previously found lacking.
The festival promises a variety of attractions including local vendor booths, games, bounce houses, and even a reptile petting zoo, bringing together elements from various walks of life to ensure an all-encompassing experience.
