The City of Fort Collins is getting intentional about parking downtown. If you’re frustrated with the constant circling for a free spot or plunking down cash for garage parking when you're just popping in, things might finally be getting better. The current blend of gratis on-street parking and paid garage spaces isn't cutting it. The former encourages congestion and the latter, well, let's just say they’re hardly jam-packed.
The city's worked with Walker Consultants and the Downtown Development Authority and finished their Parking Services Optimization Study. According to the City of Fort Collins, they've concocted a plan to alleviate parking pains downtown. They’re gunning for a parking system overhaul that's not only user-friendly but won’t continually dip into City coffers for maintenance and operation.
More paid parking spots to encourage turnover, longer enforcement hours to keep folks honest, and better signage so you’re not lost trying to find these places. There's also talk about restructuring the Residential Permit Parking Program and improving options for downtown employees and commuters.
“Our goal is to create a parking system that is simple, fair and sustainable,” Eric Keselburg, the City of Fort Collins Parking Services Senior Manager, told the City of Fort Collins.
