Frontier Airlines, infamous for its unbundled fares that often lure travelers with ultra-low base prices, is setting its sights on becoming the predominant low-fare carrier across America's metropolitan skies. The Denver-headquartered airline has made this ambition public by announcing a slew of new routes particularly rich in number from Detroit Metro Airport. As reported by CBS News Detroit, these new routes will fly passengers to and from destinations such as Fort Lauderdale, Houston, and Dallas, alongside others, with additional expansions planned for 2026.
Committed to being the No. 1 low-fare carrier in the top 20 U.S. metros, Frontier has cast its net wide with new routes, some even undercutting the insecurities of industry capacity adjustments. "Frontier is not just about delivering low fares - we've made major enhancements, from product upgrades to the most rewarding loyalty program, and investments in technology and service, as part of The New Frontier," Frontier Airlines CEO Barry Biffle stated in a press release picked up by the airline's own newsroom. Enthused with ensuring affordable flight options, the airline has set its course firmly amidst shifting industry tides.
Alongside low fares, Frontier is promising a more comprehensive travel experience, boasting affordable comfort upgrades like the imminent introduction of 'First Class' seating in late 2025. In the words of Frontier's CEO, these changes are part of "The New Frontier" initiative, which aims to rewrite the narrative of flying on a budget with added value. With rewards like Companion Travel Certificates and the ability to earn Elite Status, Frontier is sweetening the pot. Such enhancements are seen as a multifaceted strategy to attract flyers who could be easily tempted to switch loyalties for a more rewarding flight experience.
To further cement its commitment to customer loyalty, Frontier's FRONTIER Miles program is now more enticing, delivering innovative benefits like Miles Match from other airlines and the opportunity for customers of other loyalty programs to ascend to Frontier Elite Gold Status for a nominal fee. "These new benefits build on the foundation of Frontier Miles: 10 miles for every $1 spent, multipliers up to 20X for elites, family pooling, and elite status beginning at just 10,000 miles," informed the airline's announcement. While offering these nifty perks, the airline is perceived as making a calculated play to woo constant flyers, encouraging them to think twice before booking with their usual carrier.
As the calendar races towards a range of promotional fare deadlines, customers are encouraged to act swiftly. Frontier Airlines reminds potential flyers that tickets must be secured by September 1 for travel taking place between October 20, 2025, and January 5, 2025, though some black-out dates are applied.
