
Governor Josh Stein visited Camp Lejeune to participate in the North Carolina Commanders Council (NCCC) quarterly meeting, where he met with military leaders to discuss how the state can better support service members and their families.
According to the Office of the Governor website, North Carolina hosts more than 130,000 military and civilian Department of Defense personnel. During his visit, Stein was briefed on challenges faced by service members and emphasized the importance of strengthening state support systems for military families.
North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs Secretary Jocelyn Mitnaul Mallette highlighted that supporting military families is a key investment in the state’s future. Brigadier General Ralph Rizzo thanked Governor Stein for his engagement, noting the importance of state leadership in maintaining resilient military installations.
The press release also stated that North Carolina was recently recognized as a Do Your Part State, an initiative by Blue Star Families and the National Governors Association to promote state-led support for military families. Governor Stein has signed four new bills to assist service members and their families, covering professional license transfers for military spouses, driver’s license renewal processes, school enrollment for military children, and access to affordable higher education within the UNC System.
