A tragic incident shook the intersection of South Pecos Road and East Tropicana Avenue late Tuesday night, when a 2019 Toyota Camry struck three pedestrians. According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD), the collision took place around 11:03 p.m. as the vehicle, while moving southbound, hit the pedestrians as they crossed against the signal.
Officials report that the pedestrians were within the bounds of the marked crosswalk, albeit against the pedestrian light, when struck by Rafi Nersessian, an 80-year-old Henderson resident. Capturing the green light, the Toyota collided with the pedestrians, projecting them onto the pavement with significant force.
All three involved were rushed to Sunrise Hospital; 47-year-old Randi Weldon and 50-year-old April Roberts remain critical, while 38-year-old Christopher Washington was treated and released. In a turn of callous disregard, the driver failed to stop, only to be later arrested at his home on hit-and-run charges.
Despite the quick arrest, investigations by the LVMPD Collision Investigation Section continue. Those with information are urged to contact authorities directly or through Crime Stoppers, provided they prefer to remain anonymous. Incentives for information leading to felony arrests or indictments are mentioned, evidence of the community's need for closure and justice, outlined in the continuous gathering and processing of details surrounding the ordeal.
