Los Angeles experienced high tensions late Friday night when a driver in a stolen vehicle led police on a high-speed chase across several freeways. The suspect, driving a dark blue Infiniti 250 sedan reported as stolen, evaded police while reaching speeds in excess of 100 mph, weaving through freeway traffic and flouting road safety. KTLA coverage showed the chase unfolding on both the 105 and 110 Freeways before LAPD ceased ground pursuit for safety reasons, continuing to track the driver by helicopter.

The chase took a strange turn when the suspect made a stop to hurriedly refuel at a Shell gas station in Lynwood, in a move that seemed to brazenly defy the high-risk situation. As per ABC7, the suspect was seen on camera covering his face while at the gas station. Officers seemed to temporarily pull back, allowing for some precarious moments where it appeared the suspect might have reached an impasse.

The pursuit continued with the suspect driving recklessly through East LA and then making their way onto various freeways, including the 710 and the 10. FOX LA reported that the California Highway Patrol had taken over the chase. The driver struck a utility pole near the intersection of South Alameda Street and Newton Street in Downtown Los Angeles before fleeing the scene. Police are actively searching for the individual involved.
