Beginning September 1, CenterPoint Energy will increase its transmission and distribution fees. The average monthly charge for a home using 1,000 kilowatt-hours will rise from about $49 to nearly $63, according to KHOU. A customer using 1,511 kilowatt-hours will see charges go from $72.15 to $92.67, an increase of $20.52. The company said the seasonal adjustments take place each year to balance revenue during lower usage months.
CenterPoint Energy is expected to raise rates by about $2 per month for up to 14 years once the Public Utility Commission approves costs from Hurricane Beryl repairs, with the change likely starting in early 2026. CenterPoint stated, "As part of our commitment to prioritizing affordability for our customers, we proactively requested to spread these costs over several years and use more favorable financing," as reported by Click2Houston.
The proposed settlement follows severe storms in the summer of 2024 and winter of 2025 that damaged homes, businesses, and CenterPoint Energy’s electrical infrastructure. The company plans to spread restoration costs over a longer period to reduce the immediate impact on customers.
