Early yesterday morning, a Maryland State Trooper was injured during a routine traffic stop on the Capital Beltway after a vehicle operated by an impaired driver collided with a patrol car, creating a chain reaction of events. The driver, identified as Damien Arnold Haman, 42, of Fort Meade, Maryland, was arrested and is facing multiple charges, including driving under the influence.
State Police detailed that the incident occurred when Haman, driving a silver Dodge Charger, struck the rear of a trooper's vehicle, which was parked behind another squad car attending to a traffic stop. This impact was severe enough to trap the trooper between his cruiser and the vehicle he had initially stopped, a blue Lincoln. Despite the dire circumstances, the trooper managed to free himself and later received treatment at the University of Maryland Capital Regional Medical Center. Fortunately, he was released following treatment, and the second trooper involved did not sustain injuries.
Charges levied against Haman include reckless and negligent driving, among other traffic-related offenses. Following the crash, Haman was transported to Adventist HealthCare White Oak Medical Center. After his release, he was taken to the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections. The press release from the Maryland State Police provided no further details on Haman's condition or any potential bail arrangements.
