The City of Jacksonville, Florida, is enhancing its emergency response capabilities with the construction of a new marine fire station. In a ceremony marked by the turning of soil and the promise of enhanced safety, officials broke ground for the Marine Fire Station 48 located at Blount Island.

Demonstrating a collaborative effort, the Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department (JFRD), alongside the Department of Defense and the Jacksonville Port Authority, is set to boost response times for both marine and residential emergencies. "Today’s groundbreaking is another example of our commitment to meeting the public safety needs of our city, along with the waterways that flow through and surround it," Mayor Donna Deegan said during the groundbreaking ceremony this morning, as reported by the City of Jacksonville's official Facebook page.

The addition of the new marine station follows up on the city's commitment as highlighted in the proposed 25-26 Budget. Mayor Deegan's administration is keeping public safety in the forefront, emphasizing its importance in a growing Jacksonville.

Currently, the JFRD’s Marine Unit operates out of five stations, with the existing Marine 48 on Blount Island soon to get an upgrade. The other stations include Marine 38 off Trout River Drive, Marine 39 near Metropolitan Park, Marine 40 off Heckscher Drive, and Marine 68 in Mandarin. The new facility is a leap forward in advancing the operational efficiency and readiness of Jacksonville's marine firefighting force, underscoring a steady focus on public safety and emergency preparedness across the region.
