
In a disturbing incident of road rage turned violent, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has apprehended 28-year-old Tayler Strickland, who is now facing serious charges including attempted murder and shooting deadly missiles, as reported in a recent update shared by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. The event unfolded last Saturday, when a near-miss between two vehicles led to an altercation and subsequent shootout on Atlantic Boulevard, in the full view of midday traffic.
The situation escalated rapidly after the near collision, as per the complainant’s account, Strickland brandished a firearm which prompted the 25-year-old victim, who was traveling with his mother and aunt, to pull out his own weapon, and as the confrontation spiraled out of control, shots were exchanged, and the victim was hit before his vehicle crashed, however, the victim survived the violent exchange luckily his injuries were not fatal.
Investigators were quick to launch into action, leveraging surveillance technology to zero in on Strickland's vehicle. Detectives linked the identified silver Volkswagen's plate numbers to Strickland's residence, where they found and documented the vehicle's damage, consistent with the gunfire exchange detailed by witnesses and the victim. Strickland has had previous encounters with the law, having been arrested back in 2019 for assault and battery, unrelated to this case.
Strickland ultimately surrendered himself on August 6, acknowledging the pursuit of the JSO, and according to statements obtained by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, he is now being held at the John E. Goode Pretrial Detention Facility all these events unfolding within days of the shootout. It's important to note that the other driver involved is not being charged after investigation indicated his actions were in self-defense.
