After a tense and extensive search, Kayla Bailey, a Jacksonville mother of five who vanished earlier this week, was found alive in an area of woodland. Last seen on Monday morning by her daughter, Bailey's disappearance led to a substantial two-day rescue operation spearheaded by local police and firefighters. Authorities had voiced concern for her safety, initiating a community-wide search that expanded into the surrounding forests, as reported by Action News Jax.

In a statement obtained by First Coast News, JSO Sgt. Michael Monts detailed that Bailey was found enduring severe weather conditions without access to "water, no food, no shelter." He added, "She is stable," explaining that an in-depth interview to understand what transpired would follow Bailey's stabilization at a local hospital. Over 50 officers from the Jacksonville Police and members of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department were deployed in the search efforts, utilizing the MEPSAR program – a targeted search tool developed to pinpoint high-probability areas in missing person scenarios.

The technology used to locate Bailey, MEPSAR, has been a notable success in such operations. Last year, it was instrumental in the discovery of 174 out of 175 missing persons cases, highlighting its efficacy. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department Chief Gary Kuehner reflected on the collaborative efforts, saying, "I’m proud that the partnership between JSO and JFRD just continues to work, and the MEPSAR program we work with them, we help with the mapping, and we make the joint teams of the searchers, and together the two agencies were able to bring this to a successful conclusion," as mentioned in a piece by News4Jax.

Community response to Bailey's return has been one of relief and appreciation for the relentless work of the rescue teams. The innovative deployment of MEPSAR continues to revolutionize the process in which search and rescue operations are conducted, dramatically increasing the likelihood for those missing to be found quickly and, most importantly, alive.
