After recurring incidents of violence, Kennywood Park has put a stop to its 21+ nights, an event that was intended to offer adults a fun evening out. The decision came following two consecutive weekends of physical altercations, the latest of which involved multiple people engaged in a brawl, as evidenced by a video sent to WPXI by a viewer. Just one week prior, on August 22, a similar incident resulted in at least two women being barred from the premises.
Reacting to the violence, Kennywood's General Manager, Rick Spicuzza, made it clear that such behavior would not be tolerated. "Kennywood has a zero-tolerance policy for this type of behavior," Spicuzza stated, according to WPXI, with the full understanding that anyone displaying unruly or disruptive behavior will find themselves banned. While safety concerns loom for guests, the park has yet to clarify if any adjustments to security measures were made after the first incident.
Before being canceled, the nights had all the makings of a good time, with rides including the Steel Curtain and Phantoms Revenge operating exclusively for those 21 and older. According to a statement detailed by WTAE, Kennywood had announced these special nights as an invitation to "throw it back to simpler times." In the wake of the incidents, details regarding the 21-plus nights were removed from the park's official website.
