Firefighters battled a brush fire in the Sepulveda Basin on Saturday morning, which charred seven acres before being brought under control. The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) reported that the fire started at around 9:43 AM at 5600 N Woodley Avenue. Initially, the fire was a quarter-acre burn in light grass, but it soon threatened more dense vegetation. However, LAFD asserted that no structures were threatened, and no evacuations were mandated, according to a statement obtained by the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The fire seemingly began to quickly spread, but due to a well-coordinated response by both ground and air LAFD units, the fire was confined to a seven-acre area in the Sepulveda Basin Recreation Area. Despite the 90°F+ temperatures and volatile grass fanned by 10 mph shifting winds, firefighters succeeded in containing the flames. "No injury. No structures. No evacuation," was the update given by LAFD spokesperson Brian Humphrey in a follow-up report.

With the incident under control, the fire has been knocked down as of 11:08 AM, according to the LAFD. Even after the main fire was quenched, teams were set to remain in the area to mop up hotspots and to ensure a damp bare soil perimeter encircles the burned area. This effort is anticipated to secure the scene against any possible flare-ups.

The cause of the brush fire is still under investigation. Firefighters' presence in the area will continue into the afternoon for thorough containment and to investigate the origin of the blaze. The LAFD's vigilance and quick action have prevented a potential escalation that could have severely impacted the local ecosystem and nearby communities. "Firefighters will remain at scene into this afternoon, mopping up hotspots and completing a damp bare soil perimeter surrounding the burned area," Humphrey explained regarding the post-firefighting strategy in the official LAFD announcement.
