A Las Vegas man appeared in court for the first time on Thursday following his indictment on charges connected to an armored truck robbery. Devonte Devon Jackson, who was arrested in Texas, is accused of stealing $327,620 during a daytime heist involving an armored vehicle in Las Vegas.
The incident, occurring just outside a bank on July 16, involved Jackson allegedly brandishing a firearm to secure the loot. Following the robbery, he fled the scene, only to be nabbed by Texas State Troopers on July 29 in Centerville, Texas. His capture led to extradition back to the jurisdiction of the crime, as detailed in a press release by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Nevada.
During his initial court appearance, Jackson was formally presented with two charges: one count of interference with commerce by robbery and one count of brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence. United States Magistrate Judge Elayna J. Youchah scheduled the jury trial to begin on October 20. If convicted, Jackson faces a maximum statutory sentence of 20 years for the robbery charge, along with a mandatory consecutive seven-year sentence for the firearm offense.
United States Attorney Sigal Chattah and Acting Special Agent in Charge Jeremy Schwartz of the FBI's Las Vegas Division announced the indictment. The case against Jackson was developed with assistance from the FBI and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
Assistant United States Attorney Tina M. Snellings is overseeing the prosecution. It is important to note that an indictment contains only allegations, and Jackson is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
