A three-month sting operation by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Organized Retail Crimes Unit has led to the arrest of a man involved in a fencing scheme, as reported by News 3 LV. The suspect, 49-year-old Javier Becerril-Solis, is accused of buying stolen goods from local thieves and reselling them at discounted prices.
After serving search warrants on August 21 at multiple locations associated with Becerril-Solis, the investigators found an array of stolen items including a hefty cache of designer merchandise, the staggering total of which amounted to $100,280. This cache, looking for a new home, consisted of shoes, purses, designer clothes, toys, and various over-the-counter medications, all withheld from their lawful shopkeepers. Becerril-Solis was charged with participation in organized retail theft exceeding $10,000, in addition to burglary and grand larceny charges, as outlined by 8 News Now.
The LVMPD detailed that Becerril-Solis was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center, but he secured release on bail on August 22. However, his freedom was short-lived; U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement took him into custody promptly following his release, a move that has sparked conversations but not surprise amidst ongoing national dialogues on immigration and law enforcement.
