Residents in Lewisville have an upcoming opportunity to weigh in on the city's financial plans for the next fiscal year. In a recently announced move, the Lewisville City Council is inviting public comment on the proposed Fiscal Year 2025-26 budget during a meeting on Monday, Sept. 8. This session will take place in the Council Chambers at Lewisville City Hall, which is located at 151 W. Church Street.
The budget that's up for discussion isn't small change; we're talking about a $142 million General Fund operating budget. What's notable this time around is a proposed drop in property tax rates to .419009 per $100 valuation, marking the lowest rate the city has seen in over three decades. Increasing utility rates by 7.4 percent is part of the budget equation set forth by city officials, according to an article published by the City of Lewisville. Even with this tax rate drop, the city maintains one of the most competitive rates across North Texas.
A second public hearing is scheduled for Sept. 15, again during a regular City Council meeting, to hash out this proposed property tax rate. It's an important one, as it delves deeper into how the fiscal shape of the city might be impacted by these proposed changes. Interested citizens can review the proposed budget document either online at the city’s Annual Budget page or in a more analog fashion at the City Secretary’s Office or Lewisville Public Library during their regular hours of operation.
