Eastpointe police responded to a violent incident on Sunday, in which a Livonia woman allegedly fired a gun at her friend's father after being told to leave his home. According to ClickOnDetroit, 31-year-old Kimberly Lozano was arraigned on multiple felony charges, including assault with intent to murder, following the altercation.
The victim, identified as Willie Richardson, reportedly was not injured during the shooting. Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, "We cannot allow people to settle conflicts with firearms. The moment a weapon is drawn, what could have been a dispute becomes a life-threatening crime. When one person chooses to fire a gun in anger, they place not only the intended target at risk, but others who are nearby. Violence is not a solution; it’s a choice, and it comes with consequences," as reported by CBS News Detroit.
Further complicating matters, authorities claim Lozano did not comply with officers as they attempted to take her into custody, necessitating additional police assistance. This resistance led to the additional charge of assaulting and obstructing a police officer. Magistrate Makowski issued a $350,000 cash/surety bond for her release, as FOX 2 Detroit detailed in their coverage.
Lozano's subsequent legal proceedings include a probable cause conference set for August 27, followed by a preliminary examination on September 3.
