The Long Beach Police Department has successfully arrested two individuals connected to a commercial burglary and an illegal street racing event that occurred on July 14. A multi-city operation resulted in the detention of Tonjai Webster Jr., 20, of Los Angeles, and Christopher J. Villegas, 20, of Lakewood, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Webster was charged with commercial burglary, while Villegas faces felony vandalism charges connected to the street racing incident. Their operation followed an extensive investigation involving business owner interviews, examination of security footage, and evidence collection, which led to the identification of the suspects and their vehicles, as reported by the LBPD. In addition to the arrests, seven vehicles associated with the takeover were seized across Long Beach, Lakewood, Santa Ana, Inglewood, and Bell Gardens.
In a statement made by the Long Beach Police Department, Chief of Police Wally Hebeish addressed community concerns. "Our community was concerned by the actions that took place on July 14th and the Long Beach Police Department has responded with focused and direct action," Hebeish stated. "The outstanding work of our detectives and police officers has led to the arrest of suspects responsible for vandalism and burglary, as well as the seizure of vehicles from the illegal 'street racing' event."
With the suspects now in custody, the cases are being prepared for presentation to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. Police are continuing to follow leads to apprehend any additional individuals involved in the incident.
