The Macomb County Office of Senior Services is gearing up to warmly open its doors to caregivers and professionals with an open house for its GoldenBerry Adult Day Caring Center. The event, slated for Thursday, August 14, from 3 to 5 p.m., will take place at 21885 Dunham Road, Entrance Door B, in Clinton Township. According to the Macomb County Office of Senior Services, the center is an advanced day program specifically designed for individuals battling Alzheimer’s or dementia.

During this open house, attendees will have the opportunity to quickly tour the facility, indulge in appetizers and refreshments, and get to understand the range of services offered. "We're very proud of the GoldenBerry adult day care facility and the staff who deliver compassionate care to the participants who spend time there," Andrew Cox, Director and Health Officer of Macomb County Health and Community Services, told the Office of Senior Services. He emphasized the importance of such services for people considering adult day care for a family member or loved one.

Sheila Coté, Director of the Macomb County Office of Senior Services, highlighted the essential services provided by the center. "Caregiver stress can be overwhelming. Knowing that you have a safe place to send your loved one can be a great relief," Coté said, per the Macomb County Office of Senior Services. The center aims to alleviate some of that pressure by offering specialized services to those with complicated needs.

The range of services at GoldenBerry is extensive, including meals, snacks, various activities, and even transportation. Additionally, health monitoring, medication management, personal care, and a host of other supports are at hand. Staffing at the center includes certified nursing assistants, access to a registered nurse, and a social worker, to wholly cater to the participants' needs. The flexibility of schedules is another key component aimed at conveniently accommodating the varying demands of caregivers and their loved ones.

Funding for the program can come from a few different sources. Assistance is provided through the Veterans Administration, AgeWays Nonprofit Senior Services, or private pay options, which reportedly come at a lower cost than home health care. The facility is also recognized for its Montessori-inspired Lifestyle Program, which is rooted in a philosophy that focuses on meshing an individual’s abilities and interests to foster greater autonomy and maintain existing skills.
