Big news for Seattle's littlest residents: Madrona Playground is back and better than ever. After a significant overhaul, funded by the Seattle Park District, the playground at 917 34th Ave is officially reopening its gates to the public. Families in the Madrona neighborhood can mark their calendars for August 12 at 5:30 p.m., when the ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place, followed by live music from Correo Aereo, as Seattle Parks and Recreation reports.
The updates include a variety of new equipment designed to cater to different age groups, ensuring kids from 2 to 12 have plenty to do. Younger children can explore a nature-themed play structure, swings, slides, and spring toys. Older kids get their own space with swing bays, a combined structure featuring a net climber, slides, and a whirl feature – all thanks to a community-driven design process that sought input on what families wanted for their local play space, noted AP Diaz, Superintendent of Seattle Parks and Recreation. "This renovation design was truly shaped through community's feedback that helped us create a space that’s more welcoming and better reflects the way people use and love this park," Diaz told Seattle Parks and Recreation.
The project consumed a cool $550,000 of the Seattle Park District's funding, reflecting the city's dedication to providing engaging, inclusive spaces for play and family fun. And let’s not forget the all-important modern safety and accessibility standards that the new play equipment meets, or exceeds. It's not just about fun — it's about safe fun, after all. The cherry on top? The old sandbox has been traded for additional open space near the park's cherry tree grove, a conscious decision to give families more room to sprawl out and, perhaps, enjoy a picnic.
