A man is recovering from surgery after being critically injured in a shooting at a METRO bus stop in southwest Houston, according to local authorities. The incident occurred last night, shortly before 7 p.m., in the 8300 block of W. Bellfort, Houston Police informed Click2Houston.

Police say the victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was awaiting a bus when he was approached by a masked suspect who then fired shots, striking the man twice. The suspect, described as a Black male wearing a white t-shirt, fled the scene before authorities arrived. Following the shooting, the injured man was rushed to Ben Taub Hospital, where he is said to be in critical condition. "He was transported to the hospital and is currently in surgery," as noted by Click2Houston.

The circumstances leading to this violent encounter remain unclear. A verbal altercation was said to have taken place between the victim and the shooter just before the shots rang out. FOX 26 Houston reports that, "During the verbal argument, officials said the male victim was shot." As for the perpetrator's identity and the motive for the shooting, both are currently under investigation and have yet to be determined.

In response to this brazen act of violence, both METRO Police and the Houston Police Department are diligently scouring the area for leads and are reportedly pulling surveillance video from the bus to gather additional information. As of now the suspect remains at large, and officials have not released any update regarding the suspect's apprehension nor about the victim's condition post-surgery. Authorities are asking witnesses or anyone with information to come forward to aid in the ongoing investigation.
