According to Manatee County news, the new extension, opening to the public on Saturday, stretches almost two miles from east of I-75 to Lena Road and includes significant upgrades like a new overpass, a bridge, and a modern roundabout at Lena Road.

The completion of the 44th Avenue East Extension concludes a project rooted in plans dating back to the 1960s, it was part of the County’s 1968 Concept Development Plan, later reinforced through the 1989 Comprehensive Plan and continually prioritized in subsequent Capital Improvement Plans, the extension was developed to alleviate traffic and support community growth. "This is a legacy project,” Manatee Board of County Commissioners Chair George Kruse told Manatee County news.

Despite being open for traffic this Saturday, crews are still refining some aspects ensuring everything is operational for the influx of Manatee County students returning to school next Monday With Manatee County Public Works officials estimating that the new corridor will support approximately 36,000 additional vehicles each day, it represents a significant reduction of traffic strain on existing roadways.

Speaking about the expected benefits, Public Works Director Chad Butzow said, "If you were frustrated on the volume of traffic on (SR) 64 and (SR) 70, this will give you a totally new option," in remarks provided to Manatee County news, reinforcing the belief that the extension will ease congestion and improve the daily commute for many residents easing congestion and improving the daily commute for many residents are the highlighted goals of this new extension.
