The Manteca Police Department has announced the return of the 2025 Animal Shelter Olympics, which is set to take place this coming weekend. The event, which is hosted by the Lathrop Animal Center, will feature shelter animals competing in various disciplines, including obedience, agility, and high jump.
Last year's event saw Manteca's own Chief Schluer kick-starting the festivities by carrying the torch for the opening ceremony. According to an official post from the Manteca Police Department's social media, their entries in the competition succeeded to proudly bring home a gold in obedience and bronze medals in both the high jump and agility categories. The department extends its gratitude to the organizing team at Lathrop Animal Center for coordinating what has become a highlight for the community and a beacon of hope for the participating animals.
Residents are encouraged to come forward and cheer for the competing animals this Saturday, August 16. The event not only serves as a unique platform to showcase the skills of shelter pets but also plays a crucial role in finding them forever homes. As the Manteca Police Department's post reminds us, "Together, we’re making a positive impact on our community and these wonderful animals."
Moreover, one detail that tends to delight potential pet owners is that the dogs showcased at the event are up for adoption. "Don’t forget, all pups participating are available for adoption! Not only will you gain a loving furry friend, but you’ll also have bragging rights that your dog is an official Olympian,” shares the Manteca Police Department's post. For those interested in adopting, the shelter involved in the event is located at 115 E Wetmore St, Manteca, and can be reached at (209) 456-8270 for more information.
