In a case that has brought an unsettling crime to light, Kyle Knickel has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for his offenses, a decision that was detailed in a post by the Marion County Prosecutor's Office on social media. The charges that culminated in this sentence include the rape of a child under 10 years old, for which Knickel will serve life in prison, along with receiving an additional eight years for pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor, and five years for gross sexual imposition.
Marion County Prosecutor Ray Grogan described Knickel as a "deviant offender of the worst sort," referring to his actions, which included performing oral sex on a four-year-old girl and fondling a seven-year-old boy's genitals. Beyond physical abuse, Knickel also documented his crimes by taking photos of another naked child. The conviction and subsequent sentencing follow admissions by the victims to professionals at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital’s Child Advocacy Center in Columbus, Ohio, the Marion County Prosecutor's office relayed.
The investigation was originally sparked by the Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, which alerted the Marion County Sheriff's Office in Marion, OH, to suspected images that had been downloaded. Detectives Katie Barber and Christy Utley conducted the investigation and uncovered Knickel's prolonged pattern of abuse. Assistant Prosecutor Allison Kesler prosecuted the case.
Ray Grogan Marion County Prosecutor's Office, making a statement on Knickel's sentencing, said, "This sentence sends away a predator for life, ensuring he never harms another child." He emphasized the outcome of the case as a warning to potential abusers: "We stand guard for every child in our community," Grogan stated, "this outcome warns all abusers: we will find you, and justice is relentless."
