A significant spill occurred on a Michigan highway as a tanker carrying a considerable quantity of milk overturned, resulting in more than 12,000 gallons of the liquid spilling into a nearby drainage ditch. The accident, which took place yesterday morning on M-46 in Kingston Township, prompted a response from state environmental officials due to the potential impact on the local ecosystem. According to Click on Detroit, the incident happened close to Phillips Road, located approximately 40 miles east of Saginaw.
The Tuscola County Sheriff's Office revealed that the crash transpired at around 6 a.m. and Michigan State Police were called to handle traffic control while emergency crews assisted the driver, who, fortunately, sustained only minor injuries. In a post shared by the Tuscola County Sheriff's Office, thanks were extended to Michalski Excavating for providing sand to prevent the milk from spreading further.
Following the incident, intervention by the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy was deemed necessary due to the extensive volume of milk that emptied into the drainage ditch. As reported by CBS Detroit, the situation calls for an environmental cleanup to mitigate any negative effects the spill may have on the environment.
The coordination between the Kingston and Mayville fire departments played a critical role in rescuing the driver from the wreckage. As the investigation into the cause of the crash continues, MSP is actively examining the circumstances surrounding the incident.
