Following a morning with isolated showers and limited sunshine, Milwaukee is expected to experience hazardous beach conditions. The National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, WI, issued a Beach Hazards Statement earlier today, warning of life-threatening waves between 3 to 5 feet and dangerous currents beginning Wednesday morning and continuing through late night.
The forecast for Milwaukee indicates mostly cloudy skies with occasional light showers leading up to midweek, which may impact outdoor activities until conditions improve later in the week. The NWS advises that swimming in Lake Michigan may be dangerous, particularly along north-facing beaches and near piers or breakwalls, where the risk is expected to be highest. After Wednesday, conditions are expected to improve, with sunnier skies beginning on Thursday.
A beach hazard is in effect for Milwaukee, Racine, and Kenosha counties, with conditions expected to create unsafe swimming environments due to high waves and onshore winds. Temperatures are currently in the low 70s. As the week progresses, the forecast indicates increasing sunshine and a gradual rise in temperatures, with highs nearing 82 degrees by Friday, which may lead to increased activity near the lake.
According to the NWS, humidity combined with light northerly winds is contributing to hazardous conditions on Lake Michigan. Evening temperatures in Milwaukee are forecasted to reach the upper 60s. The agency advises the public to avoid entering the water and to stay away from areas such as piers and breakwalls due to expected strong structural and longshore currents, with the potential for rip currents. Beachgoers are encouraged to consider these conditions when planning visits.
