Community members are grappling with the reality of yet another life cut short by gun violence on Milwaukee's north side after a 16-year-old was shot and killed late Saturday evening near North 12th Street and West Concordia Avenue. The Milwaukee Police Department, as of last night, continued its search for the unknown gunman responsible for the shooting that occurred just after 9 p.m., WISN reports.
According to police sources, the teen was pronounced dead at the scene following the incident, and no arrests have yet been made in a city that is witnessing a disturbing trend of youth violence, as outlined in data from the Milwaukee Homicide Review Commission through Aug. 11 with 59 youth victims of fatal and nonfatal gun violence so far this year and 40 suspects also being young people, as noted by CBS58.
Investigations are ongoing in what marks the city's 93rd homicide this year, and at least the 16th involving a victim under the age of 18, the implications of these figures bear witness to a haunting pattern of loss that policy makers and community leaders are struggling to address effectively, as detailed by JSOnline. The teen's identity has not been released as the police continue their plea for the public’s assistance in locating anyone involved in the shooting.
