In the ongoing efforts to recover from recent floods, Milwaukee residents have the opportunity to pick up free cleaning kits this week, a measure encouraged by the Milwaukee Health Department in a bid to assist in safe and effective cleanup. According to a statement obtained by the Journal Sentinel, it's a partnership between various organizations with the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) providing the means and The Salvation Army aiding in the distribution of these kits.

Milwaukee health officials, as reported by WTMJ, stress the urgent need for thorough cleanup, warning that floodwaters may have contained harmful bacteria, chemicals, and sewage capable of causing serious illness. Although the standing water has receded, potential hazards remain—embedded in the materials and hidden corners of affected homes. The cleanup kits are intended to equip residents with essential tools to address these risks. Milwaukee’s Deputy Commissioner of Environmental Health, Tyler Weber, highlighted the importance of acting quickly and thoroughly to clean homes impacted by the flooding.

Residents can find these buckets—loaded with essential cleaning items such as laundry detergent, rubber gloves, and face masks—during specified pick-up times at The Salvation Army Citadel Corps located at 4129 W. Villard Ave, with distribution details confirmed by FOX6 News.

The distribution, running through Saturday or until supplies are exhausted, takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today through Friday and on Saturday till 2 p.m. as reported by the Journal Sentinel, the kits come in 5-gallon buckets with lids and contain essentials such as mosquito spray and garbage bags.
