Milwaukee is facing a bout of hazardous weather conditions, and the National Weather Service Milwaukee is on top of it, providing the play-by-play as usual. As of early this morning, the local forecast has pegged chances of showers and thunderstorms to stay through 10 am, with the rest of today looking partly sunny and mild with highs creeping up to a comfortable 71 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
However, the city is not completely in the clear. As the National Weather Service Milwaukee's latest report details, "A Beach Hazards Statement is in effect for Lake Michigan beaches from this afternoon through Friday morning." This statement underscores that the northerly exposed beaches will face the brunt of danger, specifically from risky currents that could foil any plans you had for a peaceful swim.
Heading into tonight, the weather is expected to remain partly cloudy, with temperatures dropping to the mid-50s. As for Lake Michigan's beachgoers, brace yourselves for potentially "Life threatening waves of 3 to 7 feet and dangerous currents are expected," as per the ongoing Beach Hazards Statement. The National Weather Service warns residents to stay out of the water and be cautious near piers and breakwalls, since "Strong structural and longshore currents are expected."
From Friday through next Wednesday, expect mostly sunny days with temperatures slowly rising from the upper 60s to mid-70s. However, lake conditions remain dangerous through Friday morning. The National Weather Service warns that rip currents are likely, even when the water looks calm. Labor Day weekend should be sunny and great for barbecues, but there’s a 40% chance of showers and storms by next Wednesday.
