More than 300 pieces of artwork from the former Mirage resort in Las Vegas will be auctioned off by Hard Rock Las Vegas. The month-long sale will give collectors and fans a chance to purchase items from the closed Strip property, as reported by News3Lv. The Mirage Collection includes over 50 statues, one Chihuly artwork, and four notable statues from the resort: two bronze mermaids and two brass dolphins, as stated by PR Newswire. These items were part of the art displayed at the casino during its 35 years of operation.

Auction Details and Timeline

Los Angeles-based Prime Auctioneers Inc. will host an auction of items from the legendary Mirage Hotel & Casino on LiveAuctioneer.com, with absentee bidding open through September 19 and live bidding starting September 20 at 10:00 a.m. PDT. Guy Bengal, auctioneer at Prime Auctioneers, said, "We consider it an honor to handle the auction of items from the legendary Mirage Hotel & Casino," as per Review Journal. The auction follows The Mirage’s permanent closure on July 17, 2024, more than a year after Hard Rock International purchased the property from MGM Resorts International for $1.075 billion in cash.

Strategic Art Disposition

The auction is part of Hard Rock International's plan to redevelop The Mirage into a Hard Rock resort. Some items will go to the Neon Museum in downtown Las Vegas, including any unsold at the auction. Earlier this summer, furniture and fixtures from 3,028 Mirage rooms were sold in full-room packages, with prices from $1,250 for standard rooms to $2,500 for 2-bedroom suites, as detailed by Casino.

Future of the Site

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas and Guitar Hotel Las Vegas are set to open in the second half of 2027, featuring a 660-foot guitar-shaped hotel tower on the former site of The Mirage volcano. This auction of The Mirage's artwork follows a recent liquidation sale of Tropicana contents. As quoted by Review-Journal and PR Newswire, Joe Lupo, president of Hard Rock Las Vegas, said, "The Mirage stood as an iconic destination that featured an extensive collection of artwork that helped define the resort's unique atmosphere throughout the years," and added, "This auction gives collectors, Las Vegas enthusiasts, past guests who adored The Mirage and historians the chance to acquire authentic pieces from this storied resort."
