Residents of Montgomery County, it's your time to weigh in on public safety and policing. The Advisory Commission on Policing (ACP) is opening its doors on Monday, September 8, at 6:30 p.m. for a public forum designed to give the community a voice on these critical issues. As reported by Montgomery County's website, there's no need for pre-registration; just show up at the Montgomery County Council’s third-floor hearing room and speak your mind.

The ACP was born out of a desire for change and a need for community input on policing. If you're wondering what's on their agenda, the Commission will showcase their works-in-progress and their groundwork for future endeavors. It's gonna be a prime time for residents to lay their feedback and vision for public safety on the table.

Rolling back to its roots, the ACP was established by the Montgomery County Council back in 2019. After some public dialogue and a light makeover in 2023, the 'Policing Advisory Commission' got its snappier name—the Advisory Commission on Policing. Their bread and butter? Advising the Council on police biz and pitching policies, programs, and potential legislation. Basically, they're trying to bridge that gap between the police and the people.

The Commission rolls 13 voting members deep, along with a couple of non-voters who know a thing or two because of their day jobs. The lineup includes Brian Bellamy holding the chair position, Eva Quittman and Francisco Xavier González as vice-chairs, and a solid crew of community-minded folks.
