In an effort to find forever homes for rescued animals, Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center (MCASAC) is joining the national "Clear the Shelters" campaign spearheaded by NBCUniversal Local. The two-day pet adoption event, scheduled for August 23-24, aims to connect prospective pet owners with animals in need of a loving home by waiving the standard adoption fees.

"Clear the Shelters is always an exciting event, and we love seeing all of the empty kennels afterward," Faith Koleszar, MCASAC adoption supervisor, told Montgomery County's portal. Interested adopters should note, appointments are on a first-come, first-served basis, although walk-ins are accepted depending upon the available counselors and may incur longer wait times.

Those looking to adopt can visit the center between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. during the event. To set an appointment, visitors are encouraged to go to the MSASAC How to Adopt page. Prospective pet parents are advised to be prepared to bring their new companions home the same day, fully equipped with a leash and collar for dogs or a carrier for cats and small animals, since no holds on animals will be placed.

MCASAC, overseen by the Office of Animal Services, stands as the county's only open-admission municipal shelter. It upholds its commitment to responsible pet stewardship not only through adoptions but also through educational initiatives and community outreach. Additionally, their animal services officers provide emergency response and investigation of complaints, available around the clock to ensure the well-being of the county's animals.
