In a recent crackdown on payroll fraud within the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Arielle Hester has been terminated and faces charges over allegations of falsifying timesheets to obtain unearned pay. According to Action News Jax, Hester is accused of claiming hours she did not work between 2024 and 2025, leading to an investigation that culminated in her arrest and the allegation of her swindling the department out of $4,478.63.
Further reporting from First Coast News details how the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office began their investigation into Hester's work record discrepancies in July 2025, which uncovered instances where Hester reportedly claimed pay for full 12-hour shifts even when she had called out of work further claims by Hester falsely representing her attendance during in-service training sessions were also noted, enhancing the scrutiny on her for possible grand theft and official misconduct charges.
In a similar vein, Hester allegedly stretched the truth about the duration of her training, asserting that she completed 11 hours in what was, in fact, an 8-hour training session; this revelation was shared by News4Jax. Nassau County Sheriff Bill Leeper expressed his disappointment in a statement highlighting the organization's high standards, asserting, "While these charges are deeply disappointing and troubling, if any member of our organization violates the public trust, we will thoroughly investigate and pursue appropriate criminal charges."
Hester now finds herself among six deputies from the same department who have faced the consequences for similar fraudulent behaviors over recent months—five of her colleagues were also dismissed and charged for allegedly claiming hours while occupied with second jobs, Hester's case representing the latest in a pattern of misdeeds that shakes the trust in local law enforcement. Sheriff Leeper, addressing the issue at hand, stated, "This arrest demonstrates our commitment to transparency and our zero-tolerance policy for misconduct," as reported by First Coast News.
