The road has been cleared for residents, property owners, and workers, according to guidelines set by Dare County's reentry procedures. With visitor access scheduled to resume Sunday at 5 a.m., NCDOT urges caution since remnants of water and sand linger on the road in places.
NCDOT NC12 update, reporting progress on repairs, particularly on the north end of Ocracoke, which remains closed. The agency shared a time-lapse of its work and noted concerns about evening high tides potentially affecting the ongoing repairs.
NC12, which often closes after coastal storms and flooding, has reopened, allowing visitor traffic to resume. The road’s reopening reconnects Outer Banks communities and local businesses with the wider area.
