As Nevada reels from an early-morning 'network security incident,' Nevada State Police confirm that the dispatch phone lines for the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) and themselves have been restored. This follows a statewide communications outage that left residents unable to reach these services through their usual channels. As per a recent Nevada State Police social media update, those in need of emergency roadside assistance can once again call the NHP and Nevada State Police dispatch lines directly.
In the meanwhile, Nevadans faced a brief period where, for roadside emergencies they were advised to call 911 and specifically request Nevada Highway Patrol services. While the dispatch lines are up and running, administrative and online services remain offline. "Administrative in-office and Online services will not be available today due to a statewide network issue," reads a notice from an advisory post on the Nevada State Police Facebook page.
The disruption has affected more than just emergency dispatch services. According to FOX5 Vegas, a range of state websites and online services have been undergoing recovery, causing slowdowns and temporary unavailability. In response to the incident, the Governor's Technology Office has been working hard to restore full service. The Nevada Department of Public Safety website remains offline, and the state has yet to provide details on the root cause of the network security incident.
The outage also prompted the governor's office to announce a halt on in-person services across state agencies as they work through the recovery process. The decision to pause services was made to prioritize fixing the network issues that have disrupted state operations. The Nevada State Police have expressed gratitude for the public's patience during this time, and continue to request that any non-emergent communication be directed through the appropriate restored channels, as recovery efforts proceed.
